I've got a 'Crush'...

In an industry that’s dominated primarily by men, female artists aren’t given the chance to shine and show their true potential. Some are limited to features and if they release music on their own there’s not much support behind them unfortunately. I hate to rant about the industry not seeing female artists are some of the better artists of our but that’s not what this post is about. I’d like to bring to light the amazing artist Ravyn Lenae.

I was introduced to Ravyn in 2018 with her EP ‘Crush’. Had never heard of her prior to, never seen her on anyone else’s songs. I vaguely remember sitting on my friend’s sofa in college and then I heard the intro to ‘Sticky’ and immediately had an obsession with her. I had to go back and listen to her other EPs such as 'Moon Shoes' and 'Midnight Moonlight'.

After diving into her music more I got a breath of fresh air in terms of the neo-soul genre. She’s everything I’ve been looking for in an artist. The voice, great production, and constant hits makes for a great package in the long run.

Although Ravyn is young at 21 years old, she has an amazing track record in terms of her accomplishments. From releasing three full length EP’s before being able to legally drink in the U.S, touring with SZA, then opening for Noname on the Telefone tour; Ravyn has proven that she can do it all. She’s featured on countless songs such as ‘Communicate’ by Mick Jenkinks, ‘Forever’ by Noname, and ‘Glass Flows’ by Smino. If you’re frequent listeners to the artists listed above then you’ve probably heard Ravyn’s heavenly voice on a chorus or background vocals!

It is coming up on the two year mark since her last EP so fans are expecting new music soon. She hasn’t released a project since her 2018 EP ‘Crush’ which is a little disheartening because we want to see what she has in store for us but we know whatever she releases will be great. Her most recent song ‘Rewind’ was featured on the hit show Insecure which I think is great to help get her that push into the limelight. With years to come, I know that she’ll get the recognition she deserves but only time will tell.
